Biorock workshops are organized by the Gili Eco Trust, the Global Coral Reef Alliance, the Biorock Thaïland and the Marine Foundation, thanks to the contribution of hotels, restaurants, dive shops and inhabitants of Gili islands.
During the workshops, participants learn about what is coral, the threats that touch it and solutions used around the world to fight them. Thomas J. Goreau, president of the Global Coral Reef Alliance and co-inventor of Biorock technology, teaches them its knowledge about coral and the Biorock solution. Theory is followed by pratice of the Biorock method, from construction of the structure to its installation in the depths of the sea. Practice ends up with a dive session to collect corals and attach them to the Biorock structure and another dive session to observe how to maintain such a structure in long term.
Construction of a Biorock structure
At the end of the workshop, every participant will be able to reproduce the whole Biorock technology and to install new Biorock structures in other damaged reefs around the world.
To PADI dive instructors: after the workshop, you just have to send a certificate and documentary evidence to PADI to be certified as a Biorock specialist, which is a real plus on your résumé!
